Building blue
For this project I started from the hypothesis that fire is always a destructive force. But could it be a constructive force?
Fire in itself is a reaction that starts happening at 800°C. Looking at chemical reactions, we see this is a temperature where allot of reactions also start happening.
Looking into materials, I found an ancient Egyptian technique witch is cold Egyptian faience. This material is a clay based mixture with copper(II) hydroxide. When heating up this material to 800-1000°C, a chemical reaction takes place. The result of this reaction is a self-glazing surface that turns blue.
By using the logics of burning a haystack, with this material stacked on top, I was able to make a spatial experience that exists of a dome with a blue interior.
